*Important Vaccine Update*

Leptospirosis (Lepto) is a serious bacterial disease that can be transmitted to dogs and people, and can potentially cause kidney and liver failure.  In the past, Lepto was considered rare in dogs within this area.  However, Leptospirosis now occurs nationwide and several local species of wildlife such as fox, raccoons, rats, skunks, deer and coyotes act as carriers of the disease.  In your own yard or on walks or hikes, dogs can be exposed to Lepto through contact with the eliminations of these animals.  The Lepto bacteria is passed through urine into water sources.  Contact with this contaminated water can result in infection.  Since Lepto can be transferred between dogs and humans, vaccination of your dog is highly recommended.

To protect your dog from this potentially fatal disease, vaccination is key.  The vaccines are affordable, convenient and safe.  We will initially recommend a two injection series, given 3-4 weeks apart.  Re-vaccination will occur yearly thereafter, and will be bundled in the DHLPP combo vaccine.  The health of our patients and their families is always our top priority.  Please call our office to schedule an appointment or to get answers to any questions you may have regarding Lepto and the changes in our vaccination recommendations.         (406) 862-3178

Your senior pet (7 years & up) may appear to be happy & healthy, but you should know that the gradual onset of disease in seemingly healthy pets often goes unnoticed. Once outward symptoms do appear, certain conditions may be difficult & costly to diagnose & treat. That is why our doctors recommend senior wellness exams every 6 months, and senior labwork at least once per year. Click here to learn more about the best care recommendations for your senior pet.

At this site, you will find information about our practice philosophy, our services, helpful forms to assist you and an extensive Pet Medical Library for you to search for additional pet health care information.
